After the Arrest: Bonding your loved one out of jail

What started as an evening out with friends or a loved one can end suddenly with someone in handcuffs heading to jail. Once this happens, there is one thought going through your head -- getting them out as soon as possible. There are a series of steps to bonding them out that take place in the hours following.

Your First Call:

After arriving at the jail, your loved one will be booked-in and a bail amount will be set. The first call you need to make is to one of our Bail Bond Agents. If you are unsure which agent to contact based upon your location, you need to call our office for a suggested agent nearest to you. Your Bail Bond Agent will then contact the jail for you.

Establishing a Bond:

Your Bail Bond Agent will find out the bail amount and time frame when the bail can be posted to release your loved one. They will let you know what payment is necessary. This is accomplished by posting a bail bond, which consists of cash, a credit card, or a piece of property with cash value. Generally, the purchase price of the bond is about 10% of the value. Therefore, if your bail is set at $5,000, you can expect to pay about $500 in order to purchase a bail bond.

Jail Schedules:

Most jails are understaffed and working as hard as they can to get defendants processed and out the door. Additionally, jail staff have certain times that meals are served and medication dispersed. Some jails have specific times for phone calls and visitation.

Bond Time Frame and Appointments:

Jasper County Jail does bonds by appointment. When you call us concerning someone who may be in Jasper County Jail, we find a time that is good for you to meet us at the jail to do the necessary paperwork and pick up your loved one. Next, we will call the jail and set an appointment time as close to your wishes as we can, and call you back with confirmation of the time. It is VERY IMPORTANT to be on time, as everything is done on a time schedule. When arriving late we cannot submit the paperwork, the appointment will be canceled, and we will have to reschedule... in some instances the next available appointment is the next day.

Joplin City Police Department has certain hours that bonds are allowed. They let us bond Monday thru Saturday noon to 6 a.m. Except for an hour around shift change which would be; 6:30 AM to 7:30 AM, 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM, and 10:30 PM to 11:30 PM. Bonds can be made all day on Sunday except for shift change hours.

Jails that do not schedule bond appointments can post a bond in as little as fifteen minutes, and this happens most of the time. But sometimes we arrive and the jail staff will make us wait to post the bond for a few hours. Again, when it comes to jails without bond appointments, we are at the mercy of their schedule and patience is appreciated.

Court Appearances and Bond Release:

Once the bail bond has been posted at the jail, your loved one is required to appear in court at the set time, and appear for all following courts dates until their case has been closed. Our professional Bail Bond Agents offer guidance through the bonding and court process to ensure you the best possible outcome from the circumstances surrounding an arrest.
